The Name Al-Haqq is mentioned ten times in the Noble Qur’an

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) says in Surat al-An’am (6:62):

“Then they are returned to Allaah their True Maula [True Master, the Just Lord (to reward them)]. Surely, His is the Judgment and He is the Swiftest in taking account.”

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) also says in Surat Yunus (10:30):

“And they will be brought back to Allaah, their Master, the Truth and their invented false deities will be lost from them.”

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) says in Surat Yunus (10:32):

“Such is Allaah, your Lord, the Truth. And what else can be beyond truth except error? So how are you averted?”

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala)  also says in Surat al-Kahf (18:44):

“There (on the Day of Resurrection), the authority and kingdom will be (completely) for Allaah (Alone), the Truth. He (Allaah) is the Best for reward and the Best for the final end.”

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) says in Surat al-Hajj (22:6):

]“That is because Allaah is the Truth and because He gives life to the dead and because He is over all things Competent.”

In Surat al-Hajj (22:62), Allaah says:

“That is because Allaah is the Truth (the only True God all that exists who has no partner or rivals with Him.), and that which they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allaah is the Most High, the Most Great.”

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala)  also says in Surat al-Mu’minun (23:116):

“So Exalted be Allaah, the King, the Truth, there is no deity worthy of worship except Him, the Lord of the Supreme Throne.”

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala)  says in Surat an-Nur (24:25):

“On that Day, Allaah will pay them the recompense of their deeds in full, and they will know that Allaah, He is the Manifest Truth.”

The Meaning of the Noble Name

Ibn Jarir (Rahimahullaah) said in the interpretation of (Surat Yunus 10:30):

“On that Day those polytheists will be brought back to Allaah, Who is their Lord, Master, the Truth in Whom there is no doubt. They will be brought without their false deities and rivals whom they claimed. All their claims (allegation) and lies that they forged against Allaah (of having partners or rivals in worship with Him) will be falsified and nullified.” [Jami’ul-Bayan]

Ibn Jarir (Rahimahullaah) said as regards Allaah’s Statement, Such is Allaah, your Lord, the Truth. And what else can be beyond truth except error,” Allaah  Exalted be He, says to His Creation: “O mankind! The One Who does all these for you, of providing for you from the sky and the earth, Who owns hearing and sight (who granted you the power of sight and hearing), Who brings out the living from the dead and brings out the dead from the living and disposes the affairs is Allaah your  Lord, the Truth in Whom there is no doubt, So what else can be there be after the truth except error and deviation from the true path.

i.e. If this is the Truth, then claiming that other than Him is a Lord and a deity is astray and error and deviation from truth.” [Jami’ul-Bayan]

Ibn Kathir (Rahimahullaah) said: “How then can you turn away from His worship to worship others while you know that He is the Lord that has created everything the One Who controls and governs everything?” [Tafseer Ibn Kathir]

Ibn Jarir (Rahimahullaah) said in the interpretation of Surat al-Hajj (24:62):

“That is because Allaah is the Truth, and that which you call upon other than Him is falsehood,”

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) means by the word “That,” the action that I do of causing the day to enter the night and causing the night to enter the day, because I am “The Truth” who is nothing comparable to Me, nor have partner nor rivals, and what these Misrikeen (Polytheists, disbelievers, etc.) call upon besides Me are falsehood which are unable to create anything but they are themselves are created.” [Jami’ul-Bayan]

Al-Khattabi (Rahimahullaah) said: “The Truth is the One Who truly exists and presents in reality, and everything that exists and will happen is truth, as He  says in Surat al-Haaqqah (69:1-2):

“The inevitable Reality. What is the Inevitable Reality.”

Al Haqqah (the inevitable Reality) means (and Allaah knows best), the matter which is really going to occur, undoubtedly, and nothing can avert from its occurrence.

It is said: Jannah (paradise) is truth, Hell is truth and the Hour (the Day of Resurrection) is truth. This means that these matters surely exists and are going to happen.

The Arabs say: “so-and-so is true man and the courageous is a true courageous if they affirm courage and its reality.” [Sha’n ad-Du’aa]

Al-Haleemi (Rahimahullaah) said: “The Truth is what no one can deny and it requires to be affirmed and to be confessed of. And the existence of the Baar (The Inventor), Allaah the Exalted, deserves more to be confessed of. There are abundant clear evidences and signs that affirm His existence  more than anything else.

Al-Qasheeri (Rahimahullaah) said: Al Haqq is one of the Names of Allaah  and it means the One Who exists. This meaning comply with the meaning of the Name linguistically.

Ibn al-Atheer (Rahimahullaah) said: “Al-Haqq is the One Who truly exists, Whose existence and divinity are ascertained, and the truth is opposite to falsehood.” [An-Nihayah]

Shaikh as-Sa’dee (Rahimahullaah) said: “He is the Truth in His Essence and Attributes, He is the most necessary of existences, He is what the whole of existence needs to exist. He is the One Who was and is described with Magnificence, Beauty and Perfection. He is the One Who was and is known to be the Beneficent.

His saying is the truth. His Actions are the truth, the meeting with Him is the truth, His Messengers are the truth, His Books are the truth, His religion is the truth, worshipping Him Alone is the truth, everything that has to with Him is the truth. This is because Allaah is the Truth and what they call upon other than Him is falsehood and invalid and because Allaah is the Most High, the Great.

The impact of belief in this Noble Name:

1- Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) is the Manifest Truth. There is no doubt in His Existence and no one can deny that for the ascertained clear evidences.

He deserves the Name Truth more than any truth, He  is Truth in His Essence, His Attributes, His Statements and Actions.

Everything that is attributed to Him is truth.

That is because Allaah is the Truth, and that which they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allaah is the Most High, the Most Great. [Al-Hajj 22:62]

2- The Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) used to open the Night (voluntary) prayer with a supplication that includes the aforementioned meaning:

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas (Radia-Allaahu ‘anhu): Whenever the Prophet  got up at night to offer the Tahajjud prayer he used to say:

اللهم لك الحمد أنت قيم السماوات والأرض ومن فيهن, ولك الحمد أنت نور السماوات والأرض ومن فيهن, ولك الحمد أنت مَلِكْ السماوات والأرض ومن فيهن, ولك الحمد أنت الحق, ووعدك حق, ولقاؤك حق وقولك حق والجنة حق والنار حق والنبيون حق, ومحمد صلى الله عليه وسلم حق والساعة حق

“O Allaah! All the praises are for You, You are the Holder Of the heavens and the earth, and whatever is in them. All the praises are for You, You are the Light of the heavens and the earth; and whatever is in them, You are the King of the heavens and the earth; and whatever is in them, and all the praises are for You; You are the Truth and Your promise is the truth; and the Meeting with You is the truth; Your Words are the truth; and Paradise is the truth; and Hell is the truth and all the Prophets (peace be upon them) are the truth. And Muhammad  is the truth; and the Hour (Day of Resurrection) is the truth…” [Al-Bukhaari- Book of Tahajjud]

3- Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) is the True Lord and God, Who deserves the Lordship and Worship Alone without associates. All the false deities other than Him are false and vanishing, and Allaah  mentioned in His Noble Book many clear evidences on that, such as:

His Statement in Surat Yunus (10: 31-32):

Say (O Muhammad): “Who provides for you from the sky and from the earth? Or who owns hearing and sight? And who brings out the living from the dead and brings out the dead from the living? And who disposes the affairs?” They will say: “Allaah.” Say: “Will you not then be afraid of Allaah’s Punishment (for setting up rivals in worship with Allaah)? Such is Allaah, your Lord in truth. So after the truth, what else can there be, save error? How then are you turned away?”

Then He (Subhana wa Ta’ala)  said in Surat Yunus (10:34-35):

“Say: “Is there of your (Allaah’s so-called) partners one that originates the creation and then repeats it?” Say: “Allaah originates the creation and then He repeats it. Then how are you deluded away (from the truth)?” “Say: “Is there of your (Allaah’s so-called) partners one that guides to the truth?” Say: “It is Allaah Who guides to the truth. Is then He, Who gives guidance to the truth, more worthy to be followed, or he who finds not guidance (himself) unless he is guided? Then, what is the matter with you? How judge you?”

And Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala)  ordered His Prophet  to say the following:

“Say, [O Muhammad], ‘O people, if you are in doubt as to my religion- then I do not worship those which you worship besides Allaah; but I worship Allaah, Who causes your death. And I have been commanded to be of the believers.” [Yunus 10:104]

His Statement in Surat al-Hajj (22:61-66):

“That is because Allaah merges the night into the day, and He merges the day into the night. And verily, Allaah is All-Hearer, All-Seer. That is because Allaah He is the Truth (the only True God of all that exists), Who has no partners or rivals with Him), and what they (the polytheists) invoke besides Him, it is Batil (falsehood) And verily, Allaah He is the Most High, the Most Great. See you not that Allaah sends down water (rain) from the sky, and then the earth becomes green? Verily, Allaah is the Most Kind and Courteous, Well-Acquainted with all things. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth. And verily, Allaah He is Rich (Free of all wants), Worthy of all praise. See you not that Allaah has subjected to you (mankind) all that is on the earth, and the ships that sail through the sea by His Command? He withholds the heaven from falling on the earth except by His Leave. Verily, Allaah is, for mankind, full of Kindness, Most Merciful. It is He, Who gave you life, and then will cause you to die, and will again give you life (on the Day of Resurrection). Verily! Man is indeed an ingrate.”

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala)  has mentioned in these verses – and many other verses evidences on His True Divinity and Lordship such that:

  • He Who provides with sustenance to whoever is on the heavens and on the earth.
  • He Who owns the sight and hearing.
  • He Who brings out the dead from the living and vice versa.
  • He Who disposes the affairs.
  • He Who originates the creation and then repeat it.
  • He Who gives life to the earth by sending water (rain) and brings forth it plants.
  • He Who owns all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth.
  • He Who subjects to mankind all that is on the earth and in the heavens.
  • He who withholds the heavens from falling on the earth except by His permission.

“This is the creation of Allaah, so show He that which those (Whom you Worship) besides Him have created.” [Surat al-Luqman: 11]

4- Since Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) is the Truth, loves the truth and orders with it, He is not shy to tell the truth to the people and showing it by setting forth sensible examples (or parables) that help them to understand the truth and accept it and turn away from other than it of the falsehood.

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala)  says on Surat al-Baqarah (2:26)

“Verily, Allaah is not ashamed to set forth a parable even of a mosquito or so much more when it is bigger (or less when it is smaller) than it. And as for those who believe, they know that it is the Truth from their Lord, but as for those who disbelieve, they say: “What did Allaah intend by this parable?” By it He misleads many, and many He guides thereby. And He misleads thereby only those who are Al-Fasiqun (the rebellious, disobedient to Allaah).”

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) is not ashamed of ordering with it (the truth) and exhorting on it in all people’s affairs because in their reformation in this life and in Hereafter will benefit, and there will be great mischief in the life of people when the truth is abandoned out of shyness or fear or adulation (fawning).

In the verse of Hijab, there is an example for us for strictly holding with the truth.

Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala)  says in Surat al-Ahzab (33:53):

“O you who believe! Enter not the Prophet’s houses, except when leave is given to you for a meal, (and then) not (so early as) to wait for its preparation. But when you are invited, enter, and when you have taken your meal, disperse, without sitting for a talk. Verily, such (behaviour) annoys the Prophet, and he is shy of (asking) you (to go), but Allaah is not shy of (telling you) the truth. And when you ask (his wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen, that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts.”

Ibn jarir (Rahimahullaah)  said in his interpretation of this verse: “Indeed, your entering the houses of the Prophet  without being given the permission and your sitting therein for a talk after you have taken your meal which you are invited to, was annoying the Prophet  and he was ashamed of telling you that and to get you out of his house when you entered without his permission or when you sat for a talk after finishing the meal, and he disliked that from you. But Allaah (Subhana wa Ta’ala) is not shy of (telling you) the truth despite of the shyness of your Prophet  and his dislikeness of that out of shyness from you.” [jami’ul-Bayan]

wa alaikum as salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Yes, the book has been translated by one of the teachers at the Enlightenment into Islam Center. She translated the book using sources from the book of Fiqhul Asmaa by Shaikh Abdurazzaq al Badr. The explanation for the verses are from the Tafseer books (Shaikh us Sa’dee and Ibn Kathir) and parts from many other sources like Kitab-ut-Tawheed, An-Nahj al- Asmaa by Shaikh Humood an-Najdi that are from the works of scholars upon the Aqeedah of Ahl-us Sunnah wal Jama’a. Her translation also includes comments from Shaikha Anaheed.
